The BALLARAT REGIONAL INTEGRATED CANCER CENTRE involved a 4 level Cancer Centre and Administration, with Wellness, Atrium, Oncology and Pharmacy. The sustainability of the building focussed on the indoor environment and materials selection. We developed a design that incorporated an individual room fresh air ventilation system that saved energy and increased indoor airflows. The control of light was also important in providing a unique space and ambiance to the building. The installation of a 35kW roof mounted photovoltaic system was included in the building design. The material selection focused on sustainable and low toxicity options to enhance the indoor environmental quality and impact on patients and visitors.
